C.R.A.B.S. is documenting the History of Choudrant. Over the past year, numerous historical articles and pictures have been captured from individuals and local libraries about Choudrant. Interviews have been conducted with some of the senior residents of the area to obtain additional historical information. A CD of "The History of Choudrant" is available at the Town Hall in Choudrant (aka Iley Barr Community Center). The Cost is $15 and all proceeds go back to fund Enhancement Projects.

C.R.A.B.S. believe there are many photos stored away in albums or boxes that have significant historical values to the Village of Choudrant. You may have an old photo of a relative taken in front of a store in Choudrant or down by the train depot that would be of historical value. A picture of the football players loading watermelons on boxcars to  be shipped off to Chicago would be a significant historical event that took place in Choudrant. Farmers bringing their cotton to the cotton gins would also be important for historical purposes. Group pictures of elementary students in the early 1900's like the one below would be important for historical purposes, especially if the children were identified.

By allowing C.R.A.B.S. to make copies of your photos, you will not only be helping the Village of Choudrant but you will be preserving your history and sharing your history with others. Your photos will be returned unharmed. Be a part of the second release of the Choudrant's history by contacting us.

Below are just a couple of the older photos that have been captured but we would like pictures from all the years.

J. V. Sisemore Store
Most of you will not remember this store as the J. V. Sisemore Store. You may remember it as the Parnell's Store or Whitman's Grocery. It is the same store and still standing in Chourdrant today.

Although we have been unable to identify each student individually in the photo, we have captured all of their names. The two teachers in the photo are Velma O'Neal Bagwell and Shirley Younse.

Choudrant Community Museum
Washington D. C. has the Smithsonian, Pittsburgh has the Carnegie Museum, New Orleans has the World War II Museum, and Choudrant has the Legacy Museum. Perhaps the museum in Choudrant is not as well known around the world as the other three, but it is just as important. It is preserving the culture, heritage, history, and memories of Choudrant and the surrounding area.

The Museum was located in the Community Trust Bank in Choudrant. Due to renovations at the bank, the Museum  is now located at 2410 Hwy 80 at the corner of Hwy 80 and Pine street. There will be an open house at the Museum on Oct. 9. 2009 from 4:00P.M. - 6:00P.M. .  If you would like to make donations of items, place items on loan, or desire more information, contact John  Emory, Jr. at 318-265-1954
